CEO Darcy Olsen named Arizona’s Best Non-profit Leader

CEO Darcy Olsen Cropped

Phoenix, Ariz. – Congratulations to our CEO, Darcy Olsen, for being named the Arizona Capitol Times 2023 Best of the Capitol Non-Profit Leader! Every day as a leader and mentor, Darcy embodies the Center for the Rights of Abused Children’s mission to protect children, change laws, and inspire people.

In 2011, Olsen, a single parent, opened her home to an abandoned baby at the request of a social worker. She went on to foster ten infants and adopted four children who needed a permanent family. Olsen created the Center for the Rights of Abused Children after seeing firsthand the inequities and injustices experienced by her foster children.

“With four little kids to raise, there are days when I’m just happy to make it to the office in clean clothes,” says Olsen. “Receiving an award like this just blows me away. Thank you to my incredible colleagues, journalists, lobbyists, lawmakers and supporters who are the driving force in the fight to make the world a better place for neglected and abused kids.”

In its five-year history, the Center for the Rights of Abused Children has served child victims of abuse, incest and trafficking in its unique pro bono Children’s Law Clinic. The clinic has spearheaded the fight to secure the right to counsel for all abused and neglected children in the Arizona foster care system and led Arizona to victory in becoming the first state to stop state agencies from taking federal benefits from children in foster care. This work in Arizona and across the country has impacted more than 600,000 children. Olsen says the Center’s work is just beginning.
