Brady and Brenda
Brady and Brenda, siblings separated after losing their mother, were placed miles apart in separate group detention homes.
They begged to live together—or with their aunt, who had a safe and loving home waiting for them. Yet, a judge denied both requests without explanation. Even worse, when the Center for the Rights of Abused Children offered to represent them pro bono, the judge denied them legal representation.
Brady and Brenda were trapped, without an advocate, in a system meant to protect them. But we refused to walk away.
With your urgent support, we fought tirelessly for these children, navigating a legal maze of hearings, motions, and appeals. The state used delay tactics to drain our resources, forcing us to spend funds we didn’t anticipate. But we did not relent… and finally, the judge did.
After nearly two years apart, Brady and Brenda were finally reunited—just in time for the holidays. They are now living safely with their loving aunt, where they can begin to heal and build a future together.
Brenda shared in her own words: "I was so scared and so alone, and so was Brady. We are finally together again. Thank you for standing up for us when we had no one."
